Impressionism

I realize that the lines between abstract and impressionistic photography may be somewhat blurred (pun intended). Folks won’t all agree on strict definitions....and although there are many similarities, I have chosen to treat these as two different categories of photography, if only for the sake of placing images in galleries here.

I admit that it surprised me a little when I realized that I enjoyed and appreciated both impressionistic and abstract photography. I have long been a lover of detail - see my Snowflakes gallery. The fantastically fine detail that I found in my earliest snowflake photos was captivating to me.

I still do love detail - but with impressionism particularly, I have found that sometimes less detail can also be appropriate.

Part of the fun of both impressionistic and abstract photography (for me) is the creative experimentation involved. As with any art, it can be interesting to step a little outside the bounds of mere reality and explore a little. And as I mention on my Abstract gallery page,  one often doesn’t know ahead of time just where this may lead.

Please note that, as with my abstract photography, I have made these images using my camera and then performing only basic, standard editing afterwards. In other words, the images here are very similar to  the raw images that came out of my camera - they’re not digital paintings created on my computer.
